Accessing the Stonewall Counseling Center
Times have been challenging for many of us, at both the individual and community level, which can take a toll on our mental health. With all of the changes that have happened in our community due to the pandemic, many people have had questions about how to navigate and connect with Stonewall Counseling Services, and what those services currently look like. Below are some answers to our most frequent questions;
Who will be there to help?
Our Stonewall Alliance of Chico therapists are pre-licensed Master’s Degree level interns who have a variety of specialties and experience. They continue to provide non-judgmental and inclusive counseling services to all community members while specializing in serving the LGBT*Q+ community.
Counseling services with Stonewall are offered for up to a year for mild to moderate mental illness (considered short term). At this time Stonewall does not offer crisis or high acuity therapy. However, therapists are able to provide community referrals and assistance in connecting to long term therapists in the community once services with Stonewall have ended. Stonewall also offers peer-led support groups; the list of groups and methods to sign up can be found on the Stonewall website.
How are services being provided?
While services are usually provided in person, due to the pandemic services are primarily offered over Zoom or GoogleMeet. In person services are very restricted but can be discussed during the intake process to see if an in-person request is able to be accommodated.
What would be the cost, if any?
Stonewall counseling services are primarily grant funded, allowing them to be provided at low cost, (as little as $10) and all payments are based on an income dependent sliding scale. Stonewall does not accept insurance. We do accept cash pay. During your first appointment with your therapist, you will be able to discuss payment options and what will work best for you ; if you do pay out of pocket for services and your income changes, you will be able to adjust it with your therapist in order to adjust your fee.
We would be happy to answer any questions. For more information or to schedule an appointment please contact the counseling program directly at 530.809.2485 or counseling@stonewallchico.org
If you a licensed or pre-licensed mental health professional and are interested in an internship or volunteer position with our counseling program, contact our Counseling Supervisor, Charlee Rose, at crose@stonewallchico.org.
Your mental health is important and we’re here to help!
